A purpose-built yoga retreat venue

Lanka Yoga is an eco friendly retreat venue that specializes in hosting yoga teacher trainings and retreats. Lanka Yoga is sparse, on almost an acre of land fronting Koggala lake in the village of Duwa, South Sri Lanka.
Our venue is a unique combination of convenience and nature. We are the only purpose build yoga training centre on the island, with everything you need here and ready for you.
It’s a place of calm filled with laughter, fun, and adventure.

The location: sunken in nature, whilst not at all isolated

We are only five minutes from Habaraduwa town and a fantastic beach. Ten minutes to surf at the world-famous Kabalana beach, 35 minutes to find anything you need at the small city centre of Galle and two hours from the international airport in Colombo.


The yoga hall: one of the most important spaces

Our yoga hall has different teaching styles in mind, with a large, comfortable, almost square shape and free of any pillars. It’s also hidden in the trees to encourage a calm atmosphere and has all the props you need to make teaching in any style effortless.

We also have a large open grass area between the yoga shala building and villa, designed specifically for outdoor yoga sessions.

The space: full of different natural areas

Some areas are full of older fruit trees, giving us thousands of mangos, jackfruit, rambutan, donka, papaya and more in season. Other areas are grass areas for play and outdoor practice. In some parts of the property, we are rewilding, by encouraging good soil, planting local trees and letting nature re-generate. And of course, we have an expansive vegetable and spice garden, which year-round gives us all sorts of vegetables, fruits and spices which we enjoy in our food.

At Lanka Yoga, we serve a delicious chef designed vegan menu. Utilizing as much local and home-grown ingredients as possible. Our food is Sri Lankan fusion, as we believe you should eat the food of where you are, although better if it’s somehow more familiar.

The rooms – lake view from every room

All rooms have views of the lake and can accommodate different numbers. This means you can have groups of up to 23 stay in shared rooms, or nine stay individually with every option in between. We believe the perfect number for this venue is 20, to offer different room options for all our guests.

The vibe: not too serious, fun, cozy, just like home

Everything from the lighting, to the training of the staff, to the music we use in the venue are there to create a loving, calm yet energizing vibe. This vibe, of course, is universal for most yoga retreats, but if you require a specific direction, we can make that happen too.

Sustainability: a big part of this project

We accept that the world is in a climate emergency and that the earth’s wilderness is diminishing, and we are doing our share to make a positive impact. It’s not all fluff either; we put our money where our mouths are and have invested in both high and low-tech sustainable solutions.

Pool

Our pool isn’t the biggest in the world, but with an infinity view over the lake, it’s one of the most beautiful. Although Koggala lake is gorgeous, the crocodiles make it unsafe to swim in, so this is the perfect compromise. Having a sneaky post-yoga swim with a crock in the distance is pretty special.
