20 Chantrezac

Roumazières-Loubert, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

A beautifully restored manor house overlooking the village church, and built on the site of the original Chateau de Chantrezac.

Only a tower and outer wall remain of the X century castle, but the XVI century dwellings are still here, and remain much as they would have been over five hundred years ago.

Peace and tranquillity of the countryside

The pretty walled garden next to the house is the perfect place to relax and catch up on a novel. To the rear of the house we have the peace and tranquillity of the countryside, set in 10-acres bounded by woods on one side and running down to the river Charente on the other.

Follow the pathway through the little orchard towards the woods and pause for a while to listen to the birds, or have a picnic by the river before continuing back to the house past the medieval dwellings. Why not end the day with a game of boules or badminton on the lawn, or just sit with a glass of wine and watch the sun go down.

Enjoy the comfort of a restored manor house

The comfortable guest rooms are on the first floor and all have been recently renovated. There are three doubles all with private shower rooms, and a family room with use of a separate bathroom.

The house is furnished with a combination of new and old furniture, and we are often to be found exploring the local brocantes in search of antiques or other quirky finds. All cleaning products and toiletries used are cruelty free, and we are constantly looking for ways to eliminate plastic waste from our premises.

Vegan-vegetarian kitchen

Breakfast can be served in the ground floor dining room, the garden, or even in your room – the choice is yours. Vegetarian or vegan evening meals are also available on request, and we are happy to accommodate any dietary needs with a little advance warning.
Where possible, all food served is home produced, locally sourced or organic, and we always have a range of vegan beers and wines available.

We use no chemicals on our home grown produce, or indeed anywhere in our grounds.

We are situated midway between the historic cities of Limoges and Angouleme, and close to the beautiful medieval town of Confolens on the river Vienne. There are marked cycle routes and footpaths accessible directly from the property.
A twenty-minute drive takes you to the lakes of Haute Charente, popular for water sports, swimming, walking and birdwatching. There are sandy beaches shaded by oaks and willows with plenty of picnic spots and restaurants.
There are many stunning chateaux towns to explore in the area – our favourites are La Rochefoucauld, Verteuil- Sur-Charente and Rochechouart, and all are within a 30-minute drive of Chantrezac.
To explore the more recent history, there are museums and memorials dedicated to the wartime resistance movement, and the martyr village of Oradour-Sur-Glane is just 35 minutes away.

A little further afield, there are plenty of attractions to suit all tastes. Visit the beautiful riverside towns of Cognac and Jarnac with their famous distilleries, or magnificent Bordeaux, the city of wine. A 40-minute drive will take you to the Valley of the monkeys, and just 80 minutes takes you to the world famous Futuroscope theme park.

We share our home with our two beautiful Kerry Blue terriers, a shy cat who lives in the hayloft, and 5 cheeky rescue hens. Do come and join us as in this beautiful part of France.
